When I first felt the Lord tell me to do this basket I knew He wanted me to do my very best. No shortcuts, no skimming the edges and no half-hearted attempts. He wanted me to give my all.
I spent some time praying over it and I discussed it with Andrea and we came up with some of our favorite hand sewn and hand knit items that I have done over the years. This is a collection of my best work.
This basket is called Baby’s First Years and is filled with assorted hand sewn original clothing, hand knit clothing, accessories & toys for baby’s first years. The sizes in this basket range from 3 months-24 months.
We start this basket with a pieced quilt. This quilt has several different colors and textures, including the wonderful, soft minky fabric . Assorted soft pinks, blues and purple frame in the little ballerinas as they dance their way across the quilt. Machine pieced and machine quilted.
A purchased crochet crown, size 0-3 months.
A cloths line rope basket would be perfect to hold your precious little girl’s diapers. Hand dyed with Easter egg dye and stitched together on the sewing machine.
Starting the clothing at size 3 months is the hand dyed pink baby gown. Covered with layers of off white lace and decorated with a sparkle pearl button. A stretch lace head band with the same button is included with this gown.
Also coming in at 3 months is a hand knit halter overall set. The overalls stretch so it may work past the 3 month size. The overalls are knit with a double strand of lace yarn and is decorated with lace and pearl beads, topped with a pearl flower button. This is meant to be a photo prop.
A matching baby bonnet drips with pearl beads and also has a matching pearl flower button. It ties with lace.
The 6 months size is a halter bubble with ruffles and lace. Flowers and owls are on this fun, bright fabric.
A hand knit photo prop hat was knitted and donated to this basket by my precious daughter. She used two different shades of pink yarn to create this fun hat.
A pillowcase dress is our 9 month outfit. The white background is contrasted with layers of off white lace. It ties at one shoulder with lace.
A simple classic brings us to our 12 month outfit. This diaper set is one of my favorite patterns and I have made several of them. A soft pink dotted swiss trim is used to contrast the bright fabric and is also used for the diaper cover. It buttons up the back and has a button tab at the pleated front.
No little girl’s wardrobe is complete without some kind of vintage clothing. Size 18 months is made from one of my vintage patterns. Also made with dotted swiss fabric, pink on pink polka dot. The collar and sleeves are trimmed with pink piping. A classic style that never goes out.
We bring the clothing section of this basket to an end with a size 18-24 month hand knit set. This is one of my all time favorites. This set is knit from a rich, vibrant purple color.
The sweater is a turtle neck with a ribbed collar and bottom ribbed edge.
The bonnet has several rows of cable knit.
I have written a post about the knitted booties before. A extensive search brought me to this pattern after I saw a pair on line for $48. I have knit several pair of these sweet little booties. I have added a skid free patch on the bottom of the sole to keep little feet from slipping and falling.
What little girl does not love a baby of her own? This precious baby doll is sewn in a soft flannel like fabric. Her sweet face is embroidered and her hair is hand spun merino, hand dyed with kool-aid. She is wearing a hand knit sweater that was hand dyed with Easter egg dye.
For quiet play there is a fabric paper doll with her own wardrobe that tucks safely into a carry case that closes up with Velcro and can easily be carried using the fabric handles.
A decorated hand made bib to keep all baby’s new clothes neat and tidy.
The perfect book about the very One who knit her in her mother’s womb!
A photo prop to help record baby’s photos.
This all comes in a hot pink wash tub. A great photo prop, or truly use it for baby’s bath time, or use it to keep baby’s toys safe and sound, or all three!
This basket is valued at over $630.
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23-24
