For unto us a Child is Born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

The Christmas Craft

In an attempt to turn our attentions and efforts towards others this Christmas season, we focused on making a special card that would bless one person.
So we gathered together around the table and shared in the glistening embellishments and enhanced the Christmas cards intended for that special person.

The message inside bears the love and affection from the bestower of the gift.
Marked with the tiny hands that so lovingly express their hearts.
There is a spoken exchange between them as they share their ideas and thoughts of the gift.
Light hearted conversations are overheard as they chat among themselves as they diligently work with markers, glue and sparkly embellishments.
To be witness of this event, here, sharing in their thoughts, their eagerness as they prepare the gift, exposing themselves as they express the desire of their hearts and the intentions of the gift, was indeed a gift in itself.
Hearing the sweetness of their giggles and playfulness, as their spirits soar and are caught up in the mood and ambiance of the Christmas surroundings.
Everyone participates here in this event, either by way of physical effort or one who is just a spectator, an observer listening in.
I am thankful for the moments I am so fortunate to experience.
The moments that bless my heart more than mere words could express.
The moments that I will tuck away in my heart and revisit many times over.
I am thankful to God for the blessings of each one of these precious ones He has given us.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

As we near the day of celebration of our Lord’s birthday.
Let us also celebrate those we love.
It is good to draw near to those who are in our midst, in our own family.
Preparations have been made and the anticipation grows as each minute passes.

Today, we celebrate cousins. God’s chosen family for us.
This year, celebrate those that surround you.
Now at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought out the Levites in all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem to celebrate the dedication with gladness, both with thanksgivings and singing, with cymbals and stringed instruments and harps. Nehemiah 12:27

This project took a couple of days to complete.
There was a lot of coloring and gluing.
Aria embellished most of the puppets with glitter, sparkling stars, roving and jewels.
She used jewels on the the wise men.
Gold glitter filled this wise man’s gift.

Sequins were also used on the wise men.

She used roving for baby Jesus’ hair and a scrap piece of cloth and straw for the manger.
This is fleece from a sheep that we got locally. I washed it and let it dry before she used it.
After she completed the puppets, it was time for the puppet show.
Using the puppets, she told us the story of the birth of Jesus.
Starting with the angel visiting Mary and telling her she would have a baby, God’s Son.

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14
Angels We Have Heard On High

As we continue on with Advent an angel snow globe is a favorite.
We gathered everything we needed for this project. Aria picked out just the right angel at Hobby Lobby.
This is what you will need:
A jar~any size will do
glycerine~a nontoxic liquid~we found ours at Hobby Lobby.
A plastic toy or ornament~just make sure it will fit inside of your jar.
glitter~we used two different kinds.
strong glue~I used E-6000~found at Hobby Lobby
water
Using the strong glue, we glued the angel inside the lid a couple of days before starting this project.
Pour the glycerine into the jar~use one part glycerine to two parts water.
Fill the rest of the jar with water.
Pour your glitter into the jar,
and stir.
Put the strong glue along the inside of the lid and screw on very tightly.
And shake.
Aria picked out purple ribbon and I hot glued it to the bottom. I then hot glued Christmas decorations over the ribbon.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” Luke 2:13-14

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.” Matthew 2:1-2

Our favorite thing to do is to have a tea party.
We have one for every occasion.
We always have lots and lots of yummy treats to eat.
The tea is super yummy also, with loads and loads of honey.
This tea party is with baby Jesus, (and teddy).
We are celebrating something very special!
It’s Jesus’ birthday!
Happy Birthday Jesus!!!!!
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Psalm 23:5

And Mary said:
“My soul magnifies the Lord, And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior, For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty.
He has helped His servant Israel, In remembrance of His mercy, As He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and to his seed forever.”
Luke 1:46-55

And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ. Matthew 1:16
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16:15-16
Aria’s Nativity

Aria loves to play with the Nativity sets that we have throughout our home. So I wanted to make her Nativity dolls that she could play with. My goal was to have the whole scene done by the first of December, including the shepherds, wise men and all the animals, but that did not happen. I did however finish Mary, Joseph and of course baby Jesus. My new goal is to add to the set each year.
The pellets were added in the bottom so that the dolls could stand up.
After I sewed and stuffed the dolls, I put hot coffee on them using a sponge brush to give them an aged look.

I set them outside in the sun so they could dry.
I gathered the materials I needed to finish the dolls. Including the hair and the fabric for their clothes.

For me, no doll is complete without rosy cheeks.
Adding the hair is a very fun part of this process.
I used the body of the doll to measure and cut out their clothes.

And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2:7
