The Button

I  once read a story and it was so profound that it stuck deep within the folds of my heart. It was one of those stories that hang just on the surface of your memory, rising up at every opportunity to give you deep seeded faith and the exceedingly great joy that comes with it’s truth. A constant reminder.

Simple as it was I reveled in the true knowledge that it offered and often ponder it deep. It went something like this:

A woman once said to her pastor, “Pastor, I only ask God for the big things. I don’t bother Him with the little things.”

The Pastor’s response, “Madam, They are all little things to Him!”

Because we tend to place on God our own limitations based on our earthly knowledge and experiences, and because we view things in size and time through our finite minds we can not comprehend His greatness and His vastness! There is nothing too great or too small for Him. We can not wrap our brain around our Mighty God!

And so, based on the knowledge of this truth and in remembering that our very precious Lord cares for every little detail of our life and has even numbered the very hairs on our heads, ( Matt. 10:30 ) here is my wondrous story:

The Christmas order had been placed early in the summer, and since I had a few months to complete the Christmas pajamas, I thought it within my reach to get them done.

But in my busyness time completely got away from me and Christmas was closing in and I had not even started.

With just a few weeks left we at least purchased the fabric and all of the required notions . . . . except for the buttons. We could not find buttons to match.

I went ahead and spent my day off from work and sewed the pajamas as far as I could go until we could find buttons. The sewing project sat in my sewing room for over a week with no luck, until I finally decided to go through my own button collection to see if there were any that would work.

As luck would have it I found an old card of buttons that would work perfectly! I needed seven buttons and the card held the exact amount that I needed. I was so excited to finally get to mark this project off my list.

I laid out the top and placed each button down the front and marked the button holes. I then turned my attention to my sewing machine, making sure I had the right setting to make the button holes, then I reach up and grabbed the top to start working on it, and buttons went flying everywhere! OH NO! For those of you who know me know that this was a hopeless situation. A needle in a haystack.

I searched for the buttons and found all of them, except one. I now was one button short. I would never be able to match this old button. So I searched some more . . . and some more. And suddenly I stopped and said, “Father, I need one more button.”

Within my heart I felt I needed to go through my bags of old buttons. As I was nearing the bottom of my third bag I began to feel like it was a lost cause and with just a few more buttons left I was throwing in the towel. I was giving up. But then I felt the urge to keep going, and I did. The very last thing I pulled out was a card of old buttons, the card was empty, except for one button.

The very button I needed.

And I felt His delight in showing Himself to me in this way. In answering what would seem like a silly little prayer to most people: nothing big, nothing important, nothing that most would bother Him with. But just because I asked, I received and my heart burst with Him and His tender care of me, and I have had a little skip in my step ever since.

And friend, it wasn’t really about the button. It was all about a Father taking care of His girl!

This CHRIST~mas

I marvel at it all.            ImageImageImage

This holy day.  Set apart from all the rest.                     ImageImageImageImage

The quiet.

The calm.

The stillness.                        ImageImage

And it is said, “This day is holy to the Lord your God.”   (Nehemiah 8:9)          ImageImageImageImage

And believers, and non-believers alike pause and fall under the hush of it all. The tranquil silence of this sacred day.                   ImageImageImageImage

He came for ALL mankind and He alone is worthy!       ImageImageImageImageImage

And soon . . . “at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:10-11      ImageImageImageImage

Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.  And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.  For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.  And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” Luke 2:8-14

All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, holy night
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Hallelujah
Christ, the Savior is born
Christ, the Savior is born

Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth

The whole earth is at rest and quiet;   Isaiah 14:7a

The Christmas Craft

In an attempt to turn our attentions and efforts towards others this Christmas season, we focused on making a special card that would bless one person.Image

So we gathered together around the table and shared in the glistening embellishments and enhanced the Christmas cards intended for that special person.

The message inside bears the love and affection from the bestower of the gift.Image

Marked with the tiny hands that so lovingly express their hearts.Image

There is a spoken exchange between them as they share their ideas and thoughts of the gift.Image

Light hearted conversations are overheard as they chat among themselves as they diligently work with markers, glue and sparkly embellishments.Image

To be witness of this event, here, sharing in their thoughts, their eagerness as they prepare the gift, exposing themselves as they express the desire of their hearts and the intentions of the gift, was indeed a gift in itself.Image

Hearing the sweetness of their giggles and playfulness, as their spirits soar and are caught up in the mood and ambiance of the Christmas surroundings.Image

Everyone participates here in this event, either by way of physical effort or one who is just a spectator, an observer listening in.

I am thankful for the moments I am so fortunate to experience.

The moments that bless my heart more than mere words could express.Image

The moments that I will tuck away in my heart and revisit many times over.Image

I am thankful to God for the blessings of each one of these precious ones He has given us.   Image

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.   Romans 6:23

The Christmas Tea

As we near the day of celebration of our Lord’s birthday.Image

Let us also celebrate those we love.

It is good to draw near to those who are in our midst, in our own family.

Preparations have been made and the anticipation grows as each minute passes.

Today, we celebrate cousins. God’s chosen family for us.

This year, celebrate those that surround you.

Now at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought out the Levites in all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem to celebrate the dedication with gladness, both with thanksgivings and singing, with cymbals and stringed instruments and harps.  Nehemiah 12:27

Nativity Puppets

You can download the free printables from here:

This project took a couple of days to complete.Image

There was a lot of coloring and gluing.Image

Aria embellished most of the puppets with glitter, sparkling stars, roving and jewels.Image

The angel got silver glitter.Image

She used jewels on the the wise men.Image

Gold glitter filled this wise man’s gift.ImageImage

Sequins were also used on the wise men.ImageImage

She used roving for baby Jesus’ hair and a scrap piece of cloth and straw for the manger.Image

This is fleece from a sheep that we got locally. I washed it and let it dry before she used it.Image

After she completed the puppets, it was time for the puppet show.

Using the puppets, she told us the story of the birth of Jesus.Image

Starting with  the angel visiting Mary and telling her she would have a baby, God’s Son.ImageImageImage

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign:  Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.  Isaiah 7:14
