The Chuck Wagon

For years our church held a chuck wagon service and dinner in the spring, compliments of Elder and Rancher Tom.

Image

It would start very early in the morning when Tom would set up the chuck wagon and people would come and meet for breakfast. You could smell the bacon afar off and the coffee that was steaming hot, hanging over the open fire pit.Image

The beans would already be simmering and the blueberry and peach cobblers would be cooking in a bed of hot coals buried in the ground.

Image

The chairs had been moved outside to the open sanctuary and His people came and worshiped HIM there, some dressed of old.

Image

The hustle and bustle of cooking preparations went on throughout the morning worship and the sweet aroma of charred beef  rose up as a sweet offering as Pastor John delivered the message.

Image

Old familiar hymns and bluegrass style gospels spilled out as the congregation joined in the ‘Sweet By and By’ chorus.

Image

The big double bass, banjo and mandolin joined in with the usual instruments and we turned back to simple worship

ImageImage

After the service, people would line up for the most amazing delicacy, consisting of top grade beef and all the fixins’ that a cow Rancher would experience on the wagon trail.Image

After the savoury dinner there was always time for the children to play and the grown ups to sit awhile and fellowship.

It is good to turn back sometimes and to recapture the simplicity and purity of times past. To set aside all the modern gadgets and technology and experience life as it was, and as it still is for the Ranchers and cowboys who still live the simple life.

After doing a literature study on ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ we ended it with a day of baking.Image

We made pumpkin muffins, and put them in Little Red Riding Hood’s red basket.

Image

Then off to grandmother’s house we went.

Image

Grandmother was very surprised to see Little Red Riding Hood.

Image

And she was very happy to get the goodies.

Little Red Riding Hood got there just in time to save grandmother from the big bad wolf!

My Fairy Garden

Several years ago on a trip to downtown Houston, I found an amazing discount bookstore.Image

My Fairy Garden was among several of the treasures I found there.Image

The book starts with the story of the fairies,Image

then opens up to a pop-up world of fairy land. Inside the book are several little fairy paper dolls that they can play with.

Image

I have taken great delight myself in reading the story to the children,Image

and then, watching as their eyes get big with delight as the book magically opens up to a world of fairies.

Image

They enjoy hours of play with this special little book.ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Psalm 127:3

Tea With Tinker Bell

You will always find us having a tea party. If Aria is here (or not) we bring out the little tea cups and teapot and have tea.

ImageImage

We make everything an occasion to have a tea party.ImageImage

And we try to go all out with tea cakes, snacks and all the yummy things you can think of that you might have at a tea party.ImageImage

Aria loves to dress up and dressing for tea is very special for her.

ImageImage

I am not sure who has more fun, mammy or Aria.ImageImage

And just so you know, Aria likes to gobble down her sweets, then with a sweet little smile and her little gold spoon, reach over and take the sweets off my plate. ImageImageImage

But this mammy doesn’t mind at all.ImageImage

Jesus answered and said to her,  “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water.”   John 4:10

Ruby Slippers

After I had finished reading the book, I closed it and set it on the night stand. We snuggled closer together and each took a turn telling a story.  Hers, of course was about mommy and Aniyah.  After the stories had been told we made plans for the next day.

She told me that she wanted to paint. That is something she does every time she stays, just after her pancake.ImageImage

But then she told me she wanted to make a heart for her mommy and baby sister and daddy, and oh, for gumps too. Image

I told her I would show her how to cut a heart out of paper and she said she would like that. She wanted to draw a picture on each heart and write something. I told her I thought that would be sweet.

“What do you want to draw?” I asked her.

“I want to make gumps and daddy a tractor.”

“Oh, and what about mommy?”

“I just want to draw a picture for mommy.”

And we drifted off.

Image

So . . . after the dishes were cleared away and the paint put up. We started on our hearts, and true to her word, she did exactly what she said she was going to do.

Then, she asked me if I would write on the back of her mommy’s card what she would tell me.  And as she spoke, I wrote her words:

“I love you Aniyah, and I love you so much mommy. I love you up the the moon and sky.  I love you more than Ruby Slippers.  Aria”

THAT is very much, for you see . . .

Aria ALWAYS has a pair of Ruby Slippers.

But Jesus said,  “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”  And He laid His hands on them and departed from there.                Matthew 19:14-15
