The Dedication

It was Hannah in 1st Samuel that set the example for parents to dedicate their children to the Lord, for His purposes.

IMG_2780

And the heart that is turned toward Him is pleasing in His sight, the desire to give back to Him the most precious treasure.

IMG_2771IMG_2773IMG_2775

So they come before man; family and friends to declare this desire and this commitment to the Lord.

IMG_2782

For it is the wise heart that knows “from whence comes their help”, and we all “labor in vain unless the Lord builds the house.”

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed, but shall speak with their enemies in the gate. Psalm 127:3-5

Sadie Mae Grace

Sometimes the quiet is too loud.

DSCF1370DSCF1368DSCF2119

Just dead silence.

DSCF2713DSCF2840DSCF0796DSCF4044

And it’s in the silence that I hear her.

DSCF9605DSC01506DSCF2171

The click clack of nails on wood floors.

DSCF2852DSCF2417IMG_0110a

And it’s in the silence I hear her and go to open doors to outside.

IMG_5020DSCF7471DSCF6862

I still close doors, shutting off rooms.

IMG_0007DSCF0848DSCF0798

I still watch where I walk, she is always under foot, always following us around the house.

DSCF6968IMG_0836DSCF5509

It’s her spot in front of the fire place that’s empty.

DSCF7061DSCF5249DSCF2849DSCF5649

And it’s her food dish that I keep thinking I need to fill.

IMG_5065DSCF6324IMG_8439

I did not realize the sounds of her until the quiet.

14 years is a long stretch and it leaves a gaping hole.

Homemade Salsa

IMG_1452I left for Hungary with tomatoes bursting on the vines. I was sure that they would be ready while I was away.IMG_1455

I was surprised when I returned home and Martin presented to me  the most beautiful tomatoes we have ever harvested.

IMG_1456

Delighted with our crop I could not wait until I could put our treasures to good use.

IMG_1459IMG_1460

One of my favorite things about summer time is fresh salsa!

IMG_1464So we gathered our tomatoes, picked the last of our purple onions and started the process of chopping and mixing.

He Gives Snow Like Wool

So .  .  .

I’m just going to go ahead and put it out there. No more looking over my shoulder to see who’s there, because a true blue Texan would hang me up by my boot straps just for uttering the words.

Even after 32 years, Yankee blood runs thick red through my veins and my true blue Texan family and friends shake their heads at me and they warn me good.

“Shhhhhh! Don’t say it out loud!! Don’t even think it, cause they’ll know!”

Living in Texas land, where the heat sears your skin just by peeking through the drapes, and your sweat evaporates before you get to the end of the driveway. Yes, it’s all about the heat here and most Texans love it.

But this winter has brought on a wonderful (in my opinion) surprise! We are on our second freeze, with big thick chunks of snow and EVERYTHING!! Just iced in! And this Yankee heart is thrilled by the sight of it. White covered ground, a blazing fire in the fireplace, warm oven, chili smothered with cheese and onions, sweat shirts and sweaters. Need I say more?

I LOVE THIS WEATHER!!

There, it is finally out and I feel wonderfully relieved!!!        ImageImageImageImageImageImage

Her Beloved

A dear friend lost her husband. He had suffered long and hard for many years and the watching of the pain and torment has ended. His face told of the long awaited peace.              Image

I return home after the funeral and my mind turned it over and over.          Image

The scent of Jesus lay thick and heavy as I entered the room where her husband lay. And as each visitor approached her, Jesus oozed out of her, spilling out onto the ones who came to comfort her, but instead were filled with His presence and blessings.

Her words landed on their ears as a sweet sacrifice to her Lord, assuring them that her strength was in the Lord and she knew she was in His hands.

Image

And through the pain and the tears of her loss, His joy radiated out of her like a blinding light for all to see. Her Lord was glorified here.

She knew that God’s perfect healing was now upon him as she said a final good by to her beloved of 45 years.

My beautiful friend Tish has a gorgeous view from her back door!     Image

It is inviting and it draws you in, biding you to come and sit.

The Visitors

I have been seeing signs of them for weeks now. The tell tale signs of those little prehistoric looking critters that leave trails of dirt and holes throughout our yard. Their work is done in the night, in the dark where they will not been seen, but there is no mistaken that they have surely been here.

Then, in broad daylight I saw them! Not just one, or two . . .  . but three!

Armadillos!

Image

They were hard at work and they seemed oblivious to my even being there.Image

They were digging holes faster than I could snap a picture, then they would move a little and dig some more.

Image

I tried to shoo them off, but they would not budge.

Image

I followed them around for a few minutes, then left them to their business.

Image

And I swear . . . one little guy even stopped long enough to pose for me.
