It was my great idea to go kayaking on the lake, me being inexperienced, not really knowing what was in store.
Martin assured me that it would be ok, and we were off.
The wind was up and as soon as we got out of the truck, I began to have second thoughts.
The waves started slapping up against the kayak as soon as I sat down, drenching me and I was afraid for my camera.
We paddled out into the lake, just enough to get to the slue where there would be smooth waters.
I could see the contrast from within the slue and I was getting a little worried. I knew I would have to make it back-against the wind.
As we hit the lake, outside the protection of the slue, the battle was on. I paddled and paddled but could not get anywhere. The wind was so strong it was carrying me away from Martin. I could see him trying to keep track of me and also try to stay on course. I was scared I would be carried off into the middle of the lake. And then . . . I started slow and steady. Every word it’s own sentence .
I. Can. Do. All. Things. Through. Christ. Who. Strengthens. Me.
Then I went just a little faster, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Then it became a chant: I can do-all things through-Christ who strengthens me!
And finally I broke out in song, singing at the top of my lungs (no one could hear me over the tremendous wind)
I can do, all things through, Christ who strengthens me!
And the more I sang, the louder I got, the faster I paddled. Faster and Faster, with strength I did not know I possessed, I paddled, just behind Martin. I saw the relief in his face when he could see me, and I told him,
“I wasn’t scared, I was just singing.”
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13
