Lace Dress

I received some vintage lace, a gift from a friend, that became a wonderful treasure to me.      Image

So when we were iced in for four days I had the opportunity to make my granddaughter a Christmas dress and the lace was the inspiration.             ImageImageImageImage

I used the same pattern that I used for the girl’s Christmas outfits, using the top part of the pattern for a guide in sizing.  https://theportionofmyinheritance.com/2014/01/09/christmas-outfits/

The bodice lace was purchased at Joann fabrics and the lining was a recycled knit top. The sash is made out of sequin fabric with a scalloped edge.ImageImage

This was the last of this beautiful lace and that makes me sad. However, my granddaughter loved her Christmas dress and proudly wore it to our church Christmas party, and that makes it all worth it.

Christmas Outfits

Although 1999 is not considered vintage, it is however old in pattern life and in the fashion world. So when I decided to make the girls matching Christmas outfits, I really liked the bones of this one, even though I am not crazy about the 80’s and 90’s fashion era.

Image

It all started with a half price tea towel that I found at Hobby Lobby. Since I was making the girls matching outfits I needed two towels, I got both of them for $8. ImageImageImage

I already had the fabric from years past and the eyelet lace is from my stash.       ImageImageImageImage

Aria’s top is a purchased T-shirt and Aniyah’s is a purchased onesie.           ImageImageImageImage

The bottoms are both made from a portabellopixie pattern, trimmed with faux fur and vintage lace.                    ImageImageImage

Pattern for the bottoms are here:

They were super fun to make, and I was especially happy when Aria wore hers to church as she recited from memory the CHRIST~mas story from Luke 2:1:20.  Way to go Aria!           Image

A Whole Year

See post:   https://theportionofmyinheritance.com/2012/12/31/aniyah-grace/

It has been a whole year.                  ImageImage

A whole year of inexpressible joy.                      ImageImageImageImageImageImage

A whole year of exploding laughter, and of sweet, sloppy kisses.        ImageImageImageImageImageImage

A whole year of soft, warm snuggles and toothless grins.                  ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

A whole year of being filled with the knowledge of His goodness.     ImageImage

Happy 1st Birthday Aniyah!!!

Mammy loves you to the moon and back!

Image

You crown the year with your goodness, and Your paths drip with abundance. Psalm 65:11

This CHRIST~mas

I marvel at it all.            ImageImageImage

This holy day.  Set apart from all the rest.                     ImageImageImageImage

The quiet.

The calm.

The stillness.                        ImageImage

And it is said, “This day is holy to the Lord your God.”   (Nehemiah 8:9)          ImageImageImageImage

And believers, and non-believers alike pause and fall under the hush of it all. The tranquil silence of this sacred day.                   ImageImageImageImage

He came for ALL mankind and He alone is worthy!       ImageImageImageImageImage

And soon . . . “at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:10-11      ImageImageImageImage

Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.  And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.  For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.  And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” Luke 2:8-14

So. . . . it has been these 32 years and we let them go. Just let them slip. right. through. our. fingers.

And how in the world do we justify the lapse of time? Just moving straight ahead and not looking back. And the forgetting?

How do we regain the years that were wasted and the phone calls not made?

Is there a way to recover the laughter that we missed or the tears that were never shared?

And how do you fit 32 years into 6 days?

Image

It was He who has told us that “a friend loves at all times,” (Proverbs 17:17) and “do not forsake your own friend.” (Proverbs 27:10)

Image

And in all of this, He wraps His grace around us, pulling us in and binding our hearts. And His grace covers all. Image

And His opens the door and draws us in, bidding us to come near.

And the 32 years dissolve and the time evaporates with His grace, for He knows what it truly means to be a friend. (Prov 18:24)

Image

And our beautiful friend? Well, she comes, and it’s as if it were just yesterday. Our hearts so tightly woven that even 32 years cannot sever the ties.

Our hearts are grateful for this second chance, for this renewing, and we celebrate her coming.Image

Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.  No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.~Jesus~John 15:13-15

O.K, I know I say this every time but I am REALLY loving this knitted shawl pattern by Bibliosophy Books. The pattern can be found here:

I love shawls (gives me that pioneer feeling) and I have been looking for a pattern to knit for my girls, so when I found this one I was so excited.                ImageImage

So this wonderful little shawl wraps and buttons to hold it in place and is the perfect fit for my dimpled darling baby.        Image

I am well into knitting one for Aria also.         ImageImage

The dress pattern:Image

And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.  Luke 2:7

Dancing with Gumps

It was Thanksgiving night. The stores were open and the deals were just too good to pass up. So mommy and daddy ventured out and gumps and mammy kept the girls. It was the opportune time for Christmas music to be playing at our house and it flowed out of the speakers and filled the house with the warm feeling of CHRIST~mas!

Our dimpled darling baby was in her high chair feasting on mum mums when I heard gumps ask Aria to dance and I quickly grabbed my camera.

“O.K gumps, pretend that you are in love with me and we are going to be married.” she said in a very serious, grown up voice as she lifted up her chin and proceeded to hold out her arms to him.

ImageImage

The dancing began and she squealed with delight as he twirled her around and around.   ImageImage

She pirouetted around the room gracefully, toes pointed as she and her gumps danced a pas de deux.             ImageImage

And baby watched from her seat, and I watched from the end of my camera and the laughter became louder than the music.

I grabbed up baby and we joined in the dance and we whirled around and around, the merriment exploding from within the walls of our home.          Image

And what joy we felt, here with these two precious girls of ours.

ImageImage

And on this Thanksgiving day our hearts were bursting with the true meaning of thanksgiving.

SEVERAL weeks ago I posted pictures of the Milse dress that I knitted for Aniyah. Image

So, I have spent the last few weeks working on one for her big sister Aria.   ImageImageImage

I am not one to use expensive yarn on big projects so I am loving the Sheep(ish) yarn by Vickie Howell. I got it at Jo-Ann’s for around $4 a skein.            Image

I am still working on jogless stripes, but so far it’s not happening. But as you can see, it does get a little better with each stripe.

I really do love this pattern by Just Jussi. It is knitted in the round and it is easy to follow.

You can get the pattern here:

The Library Card

We made our way slowly. This was our new adventure.             ImageImageImage

We took our time, stopping to take pictures of the beautiful fall trees and to take advantage of the amazing weather.      ImageImageImageImage

She picked her favorite flower for me, a dandelion . . .      ImageImage

and there is always time for wishes.      Image

Then we were on our way.       ImageImageImage

Inside we were greeted by one of our favorite people.  Nelda is the Librarian at our local Library and the one that encouraged me to bring Aria to get a library card.                Image

Aria spent time looking around at all the wonderful sights and displays.             ImageImageImage

Then she paused for a few minutes to show Nelda her ballet moves.          ImageImageImageImage

(and yes her shoes are on the wrong feet)  so we pause again.         Image

Then back to the business of filling out forms for the library card.   ImageImageImageImage

And finally, mammy and Aria have new Library cards!          ImageImage

It is now time to shop around the Library.        ImageImageImageImage

With help from our dear friend Nelda and with much searching and digging we sat at a table and looked over our treasures.               ImageImageImage

With our choices made we found our way to the check out desk.     ImageImage

And we made our way home to an afternoon of reading and reading and reading.           Image

Thank you Nelda!!            Image

This is simply a place for me to record and share with others some of the things God is teaching me and doing in my life and the lives of those around me. I pray it glorifies God and encourages others.
