I love this pattern! It is a 1875 slip for girls, size 2-4.  ImageImage

This is the first of two dresses that I made out of this pattern. ImageImage

For both dresses I used a silk blend fabric and vintage velvet ribbon that I purchased at antique shop in Ft. Worth..ImageImage

I trimmed this dress with old lace between the ribbon, down the front and along the bottom ruffle.ImageImage

The bonnet completes the Victorian look. It is an e-pattern and you can find it here:

Can I just say once more–I LOVE this pattern! ImageImageImage

I can not count how many times I have used this pattern. You will find it along with many other wonderful patterns at: http://fairytalefrocksandlollipops.com/

The second dress and hat.  ImageImageImageImage

Instead of using lace between the vintage ribbon I used ruffles from a coordinating silk blend fabric.

Blessings!

The Knitted Hats

she visited our church a few years back for the first time. She told the story of how her and her husband had visited Nairobi Kenya and fell in love with the ‘Chokoros’–the children of the dirt—the homeless in Kenya Africa. How they couldn’t stop thinking about them and set in motion a ministry to reach out to these helpless victims.   ImageImageImage

During the process, the Lord called her beloved husband home and she was left here, alone, holding the fragments of their dream. But her Lord took those bits and pieces, as only as He could possibly do, and made that dream into a reality.

Sitting on a piece of land in Kitengela, Kenya is a children’s home. Jesus. Hobbs House of Hope. The residents of that home are children that had been scattered throughout Nairobi and the surrounding areas, neglected, abused, starving and broken. Many of them Chokoros. Image

As she told us the story we watched a slide show, a visual of the haunted faces and she told of the needs that still needed to be met and expressed thanksgiving for God’s faithfulness for the answered prayer that had already taken shape and form.

And within my chest my heart ached and a desire to help began to grow. But how? The financial needs were so great and I could not possibly help in that area.

But then . . . I saw the pictures! Children on the streets of Nairobi wearing ragged, torn coats and tattered hats covered with debris. It never occurred to me that it might get cold enough in Africa for coats and hats, and I thought, “That is something I could do, I could knits hats!”  Image

After discussing it with Andrea we began to knit hats. Wherever we went, we were knitting hats. I carried my knitting with me everywhere and often told the story of the orphans in Africa who needed the hats to stay warm. And as I knitted I prayed for the child that would wear the covering, both over their head and as a prayer covering.  Image

The next time she came we presented her a basket full of hats, and we just kept knitting. A couple of our youth girls joined in the efforts and started knitting hats also.

She brought us pictures from Kenya with the children wearing the hats and a video of them expressing their thanks. And still, we kept knitting and praying. And the prayers that I prayed for these children knitted my heart to theirs and I ached to see them, to touch them and to embrace these precious creations.

And our Lord, in His amazing goodness and His unfailing faithfulness allowed me to journey from my own front door to the door of that children’s home. And in the summer of 2011 I made the trip to Kitengela, Kenya and I carried with me the third batch of knitted hats. She gathered the children together and with overwhelming emotions and an amazing joy oozing out of my heart, I place the hats upon their beautiful little heads.  ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Cinnamon Rolls

I got this amazing cinnamon roll recipe from my friend Suzy.

Find the basic bread recipe here:

Make the basic bread recipe,Image

then put your dough onto the counter to knead.Image

I like to use coconut oil to knead the dough instead of flour so that it does not get too dry.   If the dough is too sticky then use some flour.

ImageImage

After you knead the dough, flour the surface and roll it out in a rectangle shape.

ImageImage

Here is what you will need to complete the cinnamon rolls:Image

Melt about 3-4 Tablespoons of butter and spread it all over the top of the dough.

Sprinkle cinnamon on top of the butter. O.k,I love cinnamon so I don’t sprinkle. You can use however much you like.   ImageImage

Then I sprinkle (or dump) coconut sugar on the top of the cinnamon butter.  Image

Roll the dough length ways and pinch the edges into the dough so it will not come apart.  Using a strong string, slice the dough into rolls.   Image

Pour the maple syrup into your baking dish,   Image

along with some chopped pecans.  Image

Put your cinnamon rolls in the pan about 1 inch apart and place it on a warm stove. Cover it with a towel and let them rise for about 1 hour or until they have doubled in size.   Image

After they rise, bake them in a 350 degree oven for about 20-25 minutes. Don’t over cook.

Image

After they are done baking, let them cool and serve.   ImageImage

And yes, I ate that one and a few more!  Image

Enough to share!

Vintage Pattern

Another winner!   Image

I have been wanting to make this pattern for a few years now.  ImageImage

It was super easy to sew and I absolutely love how it turned out.   ImageImage

It reminds me of ‘I Love Lucy’ and as you can imagine Aria was happy.   ImageImage

The fabric was some that I have had for years and I felt like it had that vintage look to it.   ImageImageImage

The trim is vintage itself, I got is at a yard sale many many years ago.  ImageImage

The buttons are also old and are very special to us, they belonged to my husbands mother, we lost her a few years ago. I have her sewing box and whenever I sew for the girls I always try to use her buttons. I never use them on anything I sell.   ImageImage

Included with the pattern were slippers.  Image

This is yet another pattern that I will make again. Image

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, My soul shall be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness.  Isaiah 61:10a

London Tea Set

For those of you that know me and my girls know that we love tea. We always drink tea when we are together, blended with copious amount of raw honey.

Image

So while on route to Nairobi Kenya we had a layover in London, and can I just say, Image

“I LOVE LONDON!” Even though I did not leave the airport, the six hours I spent there was amazing. The London airport was like a huge shopping mall!   Image

I found the amazing tea set at a shop and knew I had to purchase them for my girls (along with some breakfast blend London tea).

Image

This was the beginning of my trip and I carried these valuable treasures with me for the rest of the journey, guarding them and protecting them from harm. Many had very sweetly offered to carry my bag but I politely refused for fear of something happening to the tea set.

 Image

In the end, it was worth the effort. We did make another stop in London on the way home, but the beloved store that carried the tea sets was no where in sight, it was in a different part of the enormous airport.

This gift was a favorite of both my girls. I am so glad I took the pains to get them and guard them throughout the trip.

In the house of the righteous there is much treasure.  Proverbs 15:6a

She just loves these little weeds. In her eyes they are a beautiful, bright, buttery flower one minute,

Image

and a magical wish maker the next.   Image

Our yard is full of them, much to her great delight and in my kitchen window you will always find them resting in a glass of water. Brilliantly on display because of the thoughtful hands that picked them and so sweetly  bestowed them on her mammy. Image

And on this day, after a hand full of these little gems had been gathered and  after all the magic had been blown away, scattering those little seeds deeper into the soil, we gathered the remnants of what was left.   Image

We popped off the tops of the taproot and I was transported back into my own childhood as we set out, together, to create a timeless treasure. . . . Image

a dandelion necklace.

Image

And we stuffed one end into the other and diligently worked on making a chain of these amazing little wonders.

Image

The chain grew with each addition and we pressed on,Image

refusing to give up until this jewel was safely displayed around her neck.  Image

And one of my favorite quotes is about a dandelion and it is also my prayer for this treasured one of mine as she journeys through life.   Image

“My favorite flower is a dandelion . . . . Image

because it refuses to stop growing.”   (source unknown)Image

Grow little one . . . . GROW!

This is simply a place for me to record and share with others some of the things God is teaching me and doing in my life and the lives of those around me. I pray it glorifies God and encourages others.
