Blue Smocked Dress

It has been a while since I have been able to sew. The busy days turn into weeks, and then on into months and the time gets away from me.

I have been itching to get back at it and have actually cut out a couple of patterns, but nothing is completed yet. So I am reaching way back in the closet, about four years worth and pulling out a smocked dress that I made for Aria to wear to my nephew’s wedding.

I got the pattern at a quilt store in Fort Worth, but if you want an online link to purchase it, here is one:

Now, I am not an expert on smocking, but I have always loved it and I love to do it, so every once in a while I have to drag it all out and  satisfy the girly girl in me.

 ImageImageImage

The smocking is done with an off-white thread, with lazy daisy stitches done in off-white ribbon. A cluster of little pearls are sewn in the centers.

ImageImageImageImage

I really love piping, it gives your garments such a clean, finished look, so I  used piping on both sides of the smocking, framing it, as well as around the collar.

The blue fabric was purchased at Joann Fabric.

It makes me happy to see Aniyah wearing the clothes that I made for her sister, and hopefully this dress will continue to be handed down.

Lace Dress

I received some vintage lace, a gift from a friend, that became a wonderful treasure to me.      Image

So when we were iced in for four days I had the opportunity to make my granddaughter a Christmas dress and the lace was the inspiration.             ImageImageImageImage

I used the same pattern that I used for the girl’s Christmas outfits, using the top part of the pattern for a guide in sizing.  https://theportionofmyinheritance.com/2014/01/09/christmas-outfits/

 ImageImage

The bodice lace was purchased at Joann fabrics and the lining was a recycled knit top. The sash is made out of sequin fabric with a scalloped edge.ImageImage

This was the last of this beautiful lace and that makes me sad. However, my granddaughter loved her Christmas dress and proudly wore it to our church Christmas party, and that makes it all worth it.

Christmas Outfits

Although 1999 is not considered vintage, it is however old in pattern life and in the fashion world. So when I decided to make the girls matching Christmas outfits, I really liked the bones of this one, even though I am not crazy about the 80’s and 90’s fashion era.

Image

It all started with a half price tea towel that I found at Hobby Lobby. Since I was making the girls matching outfits I needed two towels, I got both of them for $8. ImageImageImage

I already had the fabric from years past and the eyelet lace is from my stash.       ImageImageImageImage

Aria’s top is a purchased T-shirt and Aniyah’s is a purchased onesie.           ImageImageImageImage

The bottoms are both made from a portabellopixie pattern, trimmed with faux fur and vintage lace.                    ImageImageImage

Pattern for the bottoms are here:

They were super fun to make, and I was especially happy when Aria wore hers to church as she recited from memory the CHRIST~mas story from Luke 2:1:20.  Way to go Aria!           Image

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”  Luke 2:13-14

Here is the same Portabellopixie pattern that I have used so often! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!      Image

You can get the pattern here:

Of course I couldn’t leave it alone.           ImageImage

I added a section down the center and layered ruffles half way down the front.

 ImageImage

I used four different coordinating fabrics, alternating them throughout the outfit.    ImageImageImage

I added a ribbon draw sting along the bottom to give it a bubble look.

Here is the new pattern I got at the beginning of summer by Elegance & Elephants.     Image

Hop on over to Snazzie Drawers and check out their other patterns. I have several and plan on posting some of them later on.   ImageImageImage

Matching Outfits For My Girls

I love this Portabellopixie pattern!  Image

I have used this pattern more times that I can count.    Image

You can find the pattern here:

http://portabellopixie.typepad.com/portabellopixie/portabellopixie_boutique_patterns/

I adapted this pattern to make my girls these matching dresses. Image

I used a combination of three different fabrics.   Image

But I reversed the fabric on each dress.    Image

Aria’s main color is the green with pink flowers and I used the smaller print for her inset.  Image

Aniyah’s main color is the smaller print and I used the green with pink flowers for her inset.  Image

Both dresses have a hot pink polka dot fabric for the ruffle that goes up both sides of the inset.  ImageImage

I also used the polka dot fabric to make Aniyah matching pants.  Image

Aria’s pants were stretch lace leggings, which is what started this whole thing! She had the leggings and nothing to match them, so I brought them home and found this fabric to match.   Image

I ended up adding a 4 1/2 inch ruffle to Aria’s because it wasn’t quite long enough.  Image

I cut up rose trim that I had and each dress has roses going up the center of the inset and Aniyah’s pant legs each have a rose.

ImageImage

They each got a headband that matched their dress.   ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

I love authentic reproduction patterns and Ageless Patterns has the most amazing selection. Check them out here:

Image

I love this pattern! It is a 1875 slip for girls, size 2-4.  ImageImage

This is the first of two dresses that I made out of this pattern. ImageImage

For both dresses I used a silk blend fabric and vintage velvet ribbon that I purchased at antique shop in Ft. Worth..ImageImage

I trimmed this dress with old lace between the ribbon, down the front and along the bottom ruffle.ImageImage

The bonnet completes the Victorian look. It is an e-pattern and you can find it here:

Can I just say once more–I LOVE this pattern! ImageImageImage

I can not count how many times I have used this pattern. You will find it along with many other wonderful patterns at: http://fairytalefrocksandlollipops.com/

The second dress and hat.  ImageImageImageImage

Instead of using lace between the vintage ribbon I used ruffles from a coordinating silk blend fabric.
