Organic Tea Basket

My very precious daughter made this organic tea basket with the help of our dear friend Cathy. I am so grateful to Andrea and Cathy for being so willing and so generous to do this basket for us.

Anyone who knows me and my girls even a little bit know how much we love tea. Tea parties are common occurrence around here, along with gobs and gobs of raw honey and sweet treats to make every tea party a special occasion. So this basket was the logical choice for my sweet daughter to put together.

IMG_8570

This basket is filled with everything you need to make the sweetest, yummiest tea.

Bulk Herb is our favorite place to buy tea, it is organic and super fresh. Andrea has filled the basket with the Bulk Herbs tea sample kit. Ten 2 oz individually packaged teas. I have tried each and everyone of them and they are all wonderful.

IMG_8583IMG_8584

Strain your tea with a wide rimmed tea strainer.

IMG_8581

And who in the world drinks tea without honey???

Cathy has added two jars of Manuka honey. This honey is super good for you.

IMG_8574IMG_8575

A beautiful cup with Romans 8:28 is a constant reminder of one of God’s precious promises to you.

IMG_8577IMG_8576

Or . . . if you prefer to have your tea on the go Cathy has added a travel mug that will keep your tea hot while you are on the road

IMG_8578

As you sip your scrumptious tea, be reminded of the Proverbs 31 woman, (I am sure she took time out for tea ;), with this scripture printed on tin.

IMG_8572

Sit back, relax and drink your tea as you read the wonderful book A Shepherd Looks At Psalm 23, written by W. Phillip Keller. A must read!

IMG_8573

All of this comes in a long basket, perfect for keeping your teas organized.

IMG_8585

This basket is valued at over $135

For behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.                 Song of Solomon 2:11-12

Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord; His going out is sure as the dawn; He will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.”                                     Hosea 6:3

You make springs gush forth in the valleys; they flow between the hills;                                Psalm 104:10

IMG_7479IMG_7665Ask rain from the Lord in the season of the spring rain, from the Lord who makes the storm clouds, and He will give them showers of rain, to everyone the vegetation in the field.           Zechariah 10:1

IMG_7693IMG_7707IMG_7704IMG_7701

He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.                                                                     Psalm 1:3

IMG_7712IMG_7714IMG_7683

The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad; the desert shall rejoice and blossom like the crocus; it shall blossom abundantly and rejoice with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the majesty of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the Lord, the majesty of our God. Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. Say to those who have an anxious heart, “Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.” Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; …

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.                 Isaiah 55:10-11

It is finally here! Strawberry pickin time and our girls are no strangers to digging through the lush green leaves to find those scrumptious little treats.

IMG_8425IMG_8428

Aniyah knows this drill well after the past two years of gathering in the strawberry harvest, and immediately finds what she is looking for.

IMG_8432IMG_8431

It has been too long since our last crop and everyone is anticipating these tasty little treasures.

IMG_8434IMG_8444

This little raised bed has been good to us, aside from the little critters that love them as much as we do. It is definitely a high light of spring.

IMG_8434IMG_8445

Our efforts are rewarded today, there are enough for supper, pancakes covered with strawberries and the girls are excited!

Rose Spa Basket

~A ROSE IS A ROSE IS A ROSE~

Spring time always brings a symphony of flowers, each shining forth God’s glory and praise. The vast colors and scents can take your breath away. But none stand so tall as the rose.

A rose always stops me in my tracks and draws me in. The variety of loveliness and intoxicating smells fill every corner of my being, a constant reminder of my Lord. I have felt the silky softness of Him, the tenderness and the sweetness of Him. The pure, soft fragrance that bids you to come closer and to drink in it’s amazing smell leaves me with total wonder and awe of Him. How beautiful is our Lord that He would do such a thing? That He would make something so fragile yet so amazingly wonderful!

I believe that He had woman in mind when He created the rose. He knew how a rose would affect her, how it would make her feel special and be drawn to it’s beauty. There is absolutely nothing about the rose that is not appealing and beautiful, it fills all the senses that the Lord created us to have, and it is pleasing.

Basket number two is a Rose Spa Bath.

IMG_8383

This basket has everything you need to take a quiet, relaxing bath. Filled with amazing scents and goodies. I wish there was a scratch and sniff on here so you could actually smell how amazing this basket is!

IMG_8399The Rose & Lavender bath salts and Rose milk bath are both made with dried organic rose petals, Epsom salts and essential oils.

IMG_8385IMG_8386

There are two bars of organic rose scented soap that smell amazing, as well as a body brush and a body scrub.

IMG_8400

There is a jar of dried organic rose petals for a few luxurious baths, just add to your water and indulge yourself.

IMG_8387IMG_8404

A jar of Rose buds for a scented potpourri or maybe you would enjoy one of three rose scented wax melts instead.

IMG_8403IMG_8406

While you are relaxing in the tub don’t forget about soft music playing in the background. I have added two of my favorite composers.

Handels The Messiah, and my personal favorite 😉 Kory and Austin’s Ballet Score of Snow White.

IMG_8419IMG_8423

While the music is playing and the rose petals surround you in your scrumptious milk bath, treat yourself to delicious Lindor chocolate truffles, served on a rose plate.

IMG_8398IMG_8396

After the bath, lather yourself in some silky body cream from The Gift Shop. It will leave yours skin truly feeling silky soft and the smell will make you happy.

IMG_8409

The roll on persian rose scent will top off your extravagant spa evening.IMG_8410 Wrap yourself up in the soft white towel and dream about your next spa bath.

The Rose Spa Bath comes in a white iron basket.

“And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.”
Mark 16:15

Let me just start by saying Glory to God in the Highest!

With storms and rain in the forecast we did not know if this day camp would happen, but through much prayer and the tender care of our Lord, the rains paused long enough to make it happen. It was the most perfect day (of course it was, He planned it that way), gorgeous weather, little wind and He did it just for us!!!

This years Survival Skills day camp was held at the Black Creek Lake.

IMG_7841IMG_7844IMG_7848IMG_7855IMG_7857IMG_7858IMG_7872

The day was started by setting up camp.

The camp fire was started and the tent was put up.

IMG_7880IMG_7882IMG_7886IMG_7889IMG_7878IMG_7890IMG_7896IMG_7899IMG_7908

Pancakes and hot chocolate were cooked over the campfire and served up with loads of butter and syrup. Yummy!

IMG_7921IMG_7926

IMG_7930

IMG_7975

There were plenty of good places to go exploring.

IMG_7902IMG_7901IMG_7977IMG_8056IMG_8048

Then it was fishin’ time!

IMG_7980IMG_7990IMG_7986IMG_7994IMG_7998IMG_8006IMG_7999IMG_8028IMG_8032IMG_8037IMG_8075IMG_8099

There were a few fish caught, but they all were thrown back into the lake. But it sure was fun catching them.

IMG_8096IMG_8090IMG_8088IMG_8086IMG_7984

Kayaking was at the top of the list of things to do. The lake was the perfect size for it and the wind was calm enough to ride the kayaks the entire time.

IMG_8018IMG_8020IMG_8042IMG_8046IMG_8059IMG_8070IMG_8080

IMG_7940IMG_7955

Lunch time was soon upon us and we cooked up some hot dogs on the camp fire. We served chips and sweet tea along with the the hot dogs.

IMG_8112IMG_8114IMG_8130IMG_8118IMG_8119

What better way to end lunch and the camp than with s’mores.

IMG_8128IMG_8129IMG_8133IMG_8134IMG_8135IMG_8139IMG_8148IMG_8150IMG_8151

It was a wonderful day at Black Creek Lake! Thanks to the parents and students for all the help! For coming and helping set up and tear down, and for sending food!

Until next year . . . .

When He utters His voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, And He causes the clouds to ascend from the end of the earth; He makes lightning for the rain And brings forth the wind from His storehouses.

Jeremiah 51:16

Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.

1 Corinthians 2:8
Tomorrow I say good-by to my beautiful friend Jo.

Jo diffused the fragrance of Jesus to those around her.

She was always encouraging,

always smiling,

always loving

and always giving of herself.

She was loved by many, and she will be greatly missed.

Jo smelled like Jesus.

And I can only imagine the joy in my beloved Jo’s heart when she heard her Lord say to her,

“Well done, good and faithful servant!”

IMG_6326

Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.

“Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!”
1 Chronicles 16:24

In preparations for our summer Hungary mission trip, April and I have decided to do silent auctions over the span of 6 weeks. Every other week we will put out 2-4 baskets that our church family will bid on.

Next Sunday kicks off the basket auctions and my basket is filled with all things American girl. My precious friend Anne has added her expertise in the making and creating, as you will soon see, the most amazing American Girl clothing and accessories imaginable. I was completely blown away this morning when she handed me a box filled with her awesome treasures. Anne gave the best of herself for our trip and I was beyond thrilled with her contributions.

I will start with Anne’s creations. I promise you that you will want to take up girlhood once again when you see what she has done. I do confess that I had the best time dressing up my doll* and doing this photo shoot, but shhhhh, our little secret.

IMG_7717

Now what little girl would not want to spend time cooking with her American girl doll?  This wonderful set also includes an oven mitt, bowl, cookie cutter, grater and tea towels.

IMG_7718IMG_7745IMG_7747IMG_7749IMG_7753

Next comes the softest, most snuggly pajama and robe set. The robe is white minky fabric and is super yummy! Does this come in my size Anne?

IMG_7720IMG_7728IMG_7731IMG_7732

Summer is upon us, and who wouldn’t want to own this awesome short set with the most adorable white sneakers?

IMG_7725IMG_7735IMG_7736

This awesome sun dress comes with a matching headband and the coolest sun shades framed with diamonds. The purse is adorned with sequins across the front and is the perfect accessory to this little set.

IMG_7723IMG_7739IMG_7740IMG_7743IMG_7741

Can I just say bravo to Anne! Each of these outfits are amazing and the hand work is exquisite!

Also in the basket comes a few knitted pieces and some of my own hand sewing work.

IMG_7546

The pink knitted dress and sweater are 100% wool and will keep your American girl doll warm on the chilliest of nights.

IMG_7573IMG_7578IMG_7582IMG_7574

Also on the knitting side of things is a pleated knitted jumper, with a sewn white cotton shirt. Topped of with a matching knitted beret.

IMG_7592IMG_7595

Let’s journey back to the colonial days with Felicity, with this 5-piece colonial dress and under garments.

IMG_7599IMG_7600IMG_7605

In the days of American girl doll Kit, a simple little dress is the perfect outfit to search out the perfect story for the newspaper.

IMG_7607IMG_7608

Smocked baby doll pajamas for a summer night, but just in case it gets a little nippy you can cover your American girl up with a pieced quilt and a minky pillow.

IMG_7571IMG_7565

To top off this American girl basket there is a Kit book and 4 movies; Kit Kitridge, Samantha, Molly and Felicity.

This basket is valued at nearly $400

The Easter Dresses

I understand how Noah felt, because these days everything comes in twos.

I was originally going to make Aria a dress for her birthday but I kept hearing this little voice in my head saying, “Ni Ni?”  Which is what Aniyah always says to me if she gets left out.

So the birthday dress turned into the Easter dresses.

IMG_6805IMG_6807

The starting point for this dress is from the Heidi & Finn pattern The Gatsby dress. You can find it here. This etsy store has several amazing little girl patterns, check them out.

IMG_6751IMG_6729IMG_6735

The pink lining fabric is the same fabric that I dyed several weeks ago, you can find that story here.

The soft knit fabric was purchased in Dallas on Harry Hines on one of my trips there with my friend Teresa.

The absolutely amazing lace fabric was also purchased there. I paid $4 a yard for the lace and went back later for more and it was gone.

IMG_6894IMG_6855IMG_6813

I used the lace fabric for the sleeves and the overlay. It has sequins along the faux smocking, with elastic to give it a gentle stretch. I did not have to add elastic to the sleeves,  it was already there.  Like I said, absolutely amazing fabric!

IMG_6755IMG_6745IMG_6729

Aniyah’s dress has layers of ruffles. This is more of the wonderful vintage lace that my friend Patty gave to me. Here are some post where I have used some of her vintage laces in different ways.  Here and here and here.

IMG_6779IMG_6783IMG_6787

The bodices of both dresses are the same. I like to make their clothes the same-but different.

IMG_6790IMG_6891IMG_6835IMG_6843

The dress closes in the back with a sparkly button.

IMG_6895IMG_6798IMG_6784

Aria’s dress is topped off with three stands of old beads that I had stored away from an old yard sale find.

The Forced Fit

My precious daughter has always loved shoes. As a toddler she had an eagle eye for shoes; if someone took their shoes off, in a flash she had them on. It didn’t matter how big they were, she would wear them. I have these images of her growing up and the different memories involving shoes.

IMG_0842DSCF1425DSC03912

She would prance around the house in my mother’s high heel shoes, twisting at the ankle, walking on the insides of the shoes, breaking them down and wearing them out.

IMG_6636IMG_2589IMG_5124

She would drag her legs, stiff and heavy, slowly making her way wearing her daddy’s cowboy boots or over sized shoes.

DSCF1233IMG_1782IMG_5640And she would often times scoot across the floor, as an ice skater would glide across the ice in her mama’s over sized, fluffy slippers. . . . . .

Shoes just made her happy!

IMG_4952IMG_4958DSCF9893

At the magical age of four she developed a serious love for jelly shoes. They were popular in the 80’s and they were made of plastic and they came in all colors and styles,. Some just plain and some with sparkles, glitter that was infused in the plastic. She loved them all!

IMG_6202

DSCF9579

On one particular shopping expedition, as we entered the store, she immediately spied her beloved jelly shoes and made a bee-line for them. They were in the bottom bin and they were on sale. She could not contain her excitement and immediately started to sort through the shoes. I went through the scattered remnants of the remaining shoes and told her that there were none left in her size, they were all too small. She was heart broke.

DSCF9498IMG_2846

So, as I went about my business looking through the clothes racks,

DSC04351

IMG_9192

from somewhere behind me I heard this grunting sound and I could not imagine what in the world was going on.  I turned around to look and I could not believe what I was seeing.

DSCF9578IMG_5074IMG_5064

My precious daughter was going through the shoes, trying each pair on, stuffing her foot in each shoe, pulling and tugging, grunting and shaking. Her face was red and her hands shook as she tried to force her foot into a shoe that was two sizes too small. She looked like one of Cinderella’s step-sisters trying to force her foot into the glass slipper. She was determined to make the shoe fit.

IMG_2668

I could not contain myself, I laughed hysterically as I watched her with those shoes, but even as hilarious as that scene was, it left me with a deep spiritual truth and the Lord has brought it to mind many times.

For this is truth: No matter how badly she wanted it to fit; no matter how much she pulled and tugged; no matter how much she grunted and shook; the plain truth is the shoe did not fit!

DSCF7013

We so often desire things, things that are not a fit for us.

We pray. And then we do whatever we want, we go ahead and force the fit. We do not wait for God! We do not really listen to His answer, because we want what we want.

We are determined!

DSCF3431

Wearing shoes that don’t fit can be painful and exhausting. It leaves it marks on you and the deep creases stay for a long time. It can cause problems that can last for years, maybe a lifetime.

DSCF1418DSCF1687DSCF1989

It was heartbreaking for my four year old to walk away that day without those shoes but her mama knew what was best. And her mama, loving her and wanting the very best for her, took her to a store and bought her a pair of shoes. Shoes that fit perfectly!

And our heavenly Father?

Well, He knows what is best.

He knows the perfect fit for each of us. He will give us our heart’s desires in His perfect time, there will be no grunting, no straining, no shaking and most definitely no forcing.

DSC03283

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path. Proverbs 3:5-6

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thought of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
